چکیده

The Collapsible Rib Tensioned Surface CRTS re ector is a new concept for multipur pose deployable membrane re ectors that is being developed by the European Space Agency It is based on the inherent geometrical stability of a doubly curved membrane with high in plane sti ness maintained in a state of tension by a series of exible ribs The shape of a CRTS re ector is not uniquely determined It results from a compromise between the best possible approximation to a paraboloidal surface and a nearly uniform bi axial state of prestress of the membrane surface to avoid the formation of wrinkles This report investigates the shape and stress distribution of CRTS re ectors both analytically and experimentally The analytical part of the study establishes a method ology for the preliminary design of symmetric re ectors of given aperture focal length and target rms error The concepts of a reference surface and of an equilibrium surface are introduced and algorithms are developed to compute these surfaces and their asso ciated rms error Then the cutting pattern for making the membrane is computed and the rms error of the actual surface is predicted Estimates are made of the rms error of CRTS re ectors with apertures of and m with and ribs The experimental part of the study compares the measurements of prestress and shape in a one sixth sector of a m diameter re ector with ribs with predictions obtained from the computational study

Crts Reflectors

A design methodology for collapsible rib-tensioned surface (CRTS) reflectors is presented. Offset configurations are explicitly addressed. For a reflector with aperture of 10 m diameter and focal length of 7.8 m, a root-mean-square surface accuracy of about 2 mm is achievable; this result scales linearly with the diameter. The design of a 1.5 m diameter prototype is presented, and the accuracy ...

Non-linear Finite Element Analysis of CRTS Reflectors

This report presents a non linear nite element simulation of the assembly process of a collapsible rib tensioned surface CRTS re ector leading to estimates of its surface accuracy and prestress distribution In two previous reports in this series preliminary estimates had been obtained by a linearised formulation hence the main aim of the present study is to access the accuracy of estimates base...

A Numerical Analysis for the Effect of Slip Velocity and Stenosis Shape on Non-Newtonian Flow of Blood (TECHNICAL NOTE)

The aim of this paper is to study the effect of slip velocity and shape of stenosis on non-Newtonian flow of blood through a stenosed arterial segment. Blood is modeled as Bingham-Plastic fluid in a uniform circular tube with a radially non-symmetric stenosis. The problem is investigated by a joint effort of analytical and numerical techniques. The influence of stenosis shape parameter, slip ve...

MHD Flow of Blood through Radially Non-symmetric Stenosed Artery: a Hershcel-Bulkley Model (RESEARCH NOTE)

The purpose of this study is to develop a mathematical model for studying the magnetic field effect on blood flow through an axially non-symmetric but radially symmetric atherosclerotic artery. Herschel-Bulkley equation has been taken to represent the non-Newtonian character of blood. The response of magnetic field, stenosis height, shape parameter on velocity, volumetric flow rate in stenotic ...

Gas Mixing Simulation in a T-Shape Micro Channel Using The DSMC Method

Gas mixing in a T-shape micro mixer has been simulated using the Direct Simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) method. It is considered that the adequate mixing occurs when the mass composition of the species, CO or N2, deviates below 1 % from their equilibrium composition. The mixing coefficient is defined as the ratio of the mixing length to the main channel’s height. As the inlet Kn increases, while ...
